What You’ll Learn — Week After Week
Week 1 – Introduction to Music Production & First Beat Creation
• Explore the structure and function of a professional recording studio
• Learn the Ableton Live 12 interface, layout, and navigation
• Create your first drum loop using Ableton’s Drum Rack
• Introduction to rhythm, tempo, and session view basics
• Start understanding how loops and timing form the backbone of electronic
tracks
Week 2 – Sub Bass & Low-End Mixing
• Learn how to craft clean, powerful sub-bass using Ableton’s Operator synth
• Apply sidechaining techniques to make your kick and bass work together
• Use EQ8 to carve out low frequencies and eliminate clashes
• Understand frequency layering and balance in the low-end spectrum
Week 3 – Synths, Melodies & Sound Design Basics
• Introduction to Wavetable synthesis and sound shaping using presets
• Compose your first melodies and harmonies to complement the low-end
• Learn the basics of subtractive synthesis and audio layering
• Explore how to create analog-style drums using the Operator synth
• Grasp key concepts like ADSR envelopes, oscillators, and filter cutoff
Week 4 – Audio Effects & Spatial Processing
• Discover essential effects like reverb, delay, and saturation
• Understand how to create space and depth in your mix
• Learn how effects can shape tone, texture, and movement
• Dive deeper into Ableton’s native audio effects and their creative
applications
Week 5 – MIDI Effects & Creative Routing
• Learn how to use MIDI devices like Arpeggiator, Chord, Pitch, and Note Length
• Create complex musical patterns and chord progressions effortlessly
• Discover how to preserve your dry signal using Audio Effect Racks and Return Tracks
• Start building more dynamic and expressive projects through routing
Week 6 – Movement, Modulation & Automation
• Explore LFOs and Shaper devices to bring your sounds to life
• Learn to automate effects and parameters for dynamic builds and transitions
• Apply automation creatively in both session and arrangement views
• Add movement and emotion to your arrangements using modulation techniques
Week 7 – The Art of Sampling
• Discover the iconic Amen Break and learn how to chop, stretch, and flip it
• Use Ableton’s Simpler for precise sample manipulation
• Explore warping techniques to match tempo and rhythm
• Build your own sample-based grooves using school-provided sample packs
Week 8 – Arrangement, Recording & Song Structure
• Clean up your mix with surgical EQ techniques
• Learn how to record audio using microphones and vocal booths
• Transition from Session View to Arrangement View
• Structure your track into a complete 3-minute song with intros, breakdowns, and drops
Week 9 – Finishing Your First Song
• Use automation within Arrangement View to add creative transitions
• Refine your project’s energy, pacing, and emotional journey
• Receive direct feedback while preparing to finalize your first full track
• Apply the “producer’s mindset” — knowing when a track is done
Week 10 – Macros & Pro Track Deconstructions
• Program macro controls to simplify complex effects chains
• Build your second custom Audio Effect Rack
• Guest artists (Mutex, Braynod, Husko) take you behind-the-scenes on their
tracks
• Learn professional tricks and techniques through real-world examples
Week 11 – Compression, Finalizing & Exporting
• Understand compression: when, why, and how to use it
• Learn how compression shapes dynamics in drums, vocals, and bass
• Finalise your track for export with the help of your tutor
• Guest Masterclass with Bernard (Sound Engineer) on compression and
exporting stems for collaborations or mastering
Week 12 – Remixing, Sharing & Artist Mindset
• Choose a set of stems and produce your first remix
• Explore remix culture, creative reinterpretation, and sample reuse
• Share your music with classmates and get constructive feedback
• Receive guidance on self-promotion, uploading music online, and next steps
